Pregame: OV @ Segerstrom (Second Attempt)

January 25, 2010

This game is rather special, both inside and outside of the game. If you didn’t already know, Ocean View and Segerstrom have already tried to play faced each other, but a blackout that started during the JV game caused the game to be postponed until today. However, after I left, the lights came back on briefly. The score during that game ended up being 4-2 in favor of Segerstrom, so we actually come into this game losing.

On the court, however, Ocean View (16-3, 4-0 in league play) and Segerstrom (15-3, 4-0 in league play) are the only two undefeated teams left in the Golden West League. Segerstrom, quite honestly, has been the only team that has a shot at Ocean View for at least 5 years in this league. The Jaguars have a great coaching staff and developed this team into a real threat to the long shadow of the Seahawks.

Led by Head Coach, Adrian Gomez, the Jaguars had a very impressive showing in the Century Holiday Classic last month. Steve Fryer named this team “on the rise” in his league preview. Coach Gomez has truly raised a classy, and hard working program up to brand new levels, but their talent level is significantly lower than Ocean View’s. There is one thing that is for sure though: Segerstrom will not go away easily.

Pregame – Saddleback @ OV

January 22, 2010

Anyone and everyone should be at the game tonight. It’s Friday and there is no excuse.

The story of the game tonight is going the matchup of OV vs. Antoine Johnson, who is averaging 30 points per game in this young season. Other than that, OV has nothing to worry about against the struggling Roadrunners.

OV: 85

Saddleback: 32

Orange @ OV: Pregame

January 20, 2010

After an emotionally charging and really satisfying win against Huntington Beach on Monday, the Hawks (14-3) are looking to suit up against the Orange Oranges Panthers (7-11).

Before we get into the game, I’d like to point out a couple of things. Here are top 5 teams in the SCIBCA’s CIF-SS rankings for Division 3-AA:

1. Ocean View

2. Foothill

3. Elsinore

4. Arroyo Grande

5. Sonora

Full rankings here. And even more important, here are the top 5 teams for Orange County, in any division:

1. Mater Dei (Trinity) 15-1, 50

2. Ocean View (Golden West) 13-3, 45

3. Foothill (Sea View) 17-2, 35

4. Los Alamitos (Sunset) 14-4, 34

5. Orange Lutheran (Trinity) 13-5, 31

It’s rather comedic to see Golden West up there huh? Congrats guys, you are right up there with the best of them!

To anyone who is dissappointed

January 19, 2010

I would like to personally apologize for the lack of emotion and energy at the recent games at Ocean View; for one, I know ASB just had a huge discussion on how we can “pump up” the crowd. For one, I want to have this kind of crowd (rallied up, and hungry to help their team) in the regular season. I’m not guaranteeing it to happen, but I can definitely prove to you that I will try my best to put it out there.

We’ve used the Cameron Crazies as a model… again, not saying that it will happen, but expect a much more energized fan base out there this Friday.

We own this city… for now: OV Destroys Huntington Beach, 83-38

January 18, 2010

My prediction was way off… in a good way though.

Ocean View not only reversed the score, but beat the Oilers into submission… not that it wasn’t expected.

The biggest, and most decisive factor of the game was DEFENSE. Our Defense was in Championship mode tonight! They forced over 20 turnovers (no stats available yet, so don’t knock me if I’m wrong),  by either jumping passing routes, or just pickpocketing the half-hazard Oilers. These guys were really no where close to our league, and their overall lack of size was combined to their lack of scorers… and OV spent over half of the game on a fast break… I said it in the 1st quarter report that I have never seen so many dunks in one game, and I wasn’t kidding; Ocean View is just too good for anyone in Huntington Beach right now.

While getting back into a league mode will be important, this effort tonight is a real boost, and if history ever predicted anything, Ocean View should be on its way up from this point on.

OV @ Huntington Beach – Pregame

January 18, 2010

Welcome to rivalry week everyone! OV (13-3) is going to take on their crosstown rivals, the Huntington Beach Oilers (6-12) in downtown HB at 6:00 tonight, I hope everyone can make it out to the game tonight.

First of all, everyone should remember last years battle, where it came down to literally the last possession as the Oilers fell short after Anthony Brown got a quick cutter through the key to take the lead from the Oilers. The drama and intensity of that matchup boosted the energy of Ocean View throughout the rest of that season, eventually pushing them to a state championship game. However, that was last year.

Last year, Ocean View never really had an identity until after this game, last year, the team only started one Senior, and avoided starting more than 1 forward in every game. Last year, Huntington had multiple scoring threats on the interior and exterior.

This year, on the other hand, is going to be a completely different game.
